Untargetability

  • Frequent backrow like Chalice, ECon, and Treacherous Trap Hole are ineffective.

Part 3: OTK or bust

Very few cards can stop fully powered Hazys, and even if your opponent runs triple WoD, he'll have to have it in his starting hand.

ECon-taking tribute fodder

Though your bosses aren't targetable, smart players will take your tribute fodder and steal your momentum. Luckily, since ECon is now limited, it's not as omnipresent as before. 

Prone to bricking

Needs 2-3 specific cards to combo, going first may leave you helpless. 

Zero defensive backrow

Sphynx is fairly vulnerable during your opponent's turn at only 1900 ATK. Similar to Phoenix decks of old, Sphere Kuriboh is your only option.

Deck Summary

Untargetability + swarming = massive OTK potential. This deck is the definition of "all or nothing", you've either won or lost by Turn 2 - 4. 

Only a handful of cards can touch Hazys, namely Floodgate Trap Hole and Wall of Disruption.

Sphynx and Peryton serve as power summons while everything else acts as a summoning method to get them onto the field. Since this deck is almost all Monsters, Aroma Strategy isn't needed to reliably proc Sphynx's mill. 

With the help of Beatdown!, you can boost three untargetable beaters to 2800+ ATK in a single turn.

Hazy Flame Sphynx

The steady rock of this deck. The mill effect will rarely fail since we only run 1 Spell card.

With two other beaters, each Sphynx will reach at least 2800 ATK under Beatdown! boost, just enough to match Anki and Wiz.  

Hazy Flame Peryton

Needs the most resources, but grants the highest payoff. Using anywhere from 2-3 cards, Peryton can sac itself for 2 Sphynxes, who will then mill for a 3rd beater for a massive power swing.

Note: requires a Fire monster to discard, so Dynatherium/Tricky aren't valid. 

Hazy Flame Mantikor

Your strongest beater, maxing out at 3100 ATK with triple Beatdown!

Its effect prevents the occasional nontargeted destruction such as SRH, SSA, or Widespread Ruin.

 

The premier method for providing Tribute fodder essentially for free. Most decks either do not use 4 star monsters or will not have anything in the Graveyard that early in the game. 

Requires a discard, but its FIRE attribute meshes well with Peryton.

Nifty hand scout and banishing effect prevents Amazons from Onslaught'ing reinforcements during the Battle Phase.
