An incredibly sought after card, Sphere Kuriboh fills a very specific niche that no other card in the game can truly fulfill. He's one of the only monster cards whose effect can be activated from the hand, which makes him effectively uncounterable (with the exception of Divine Wrath), and his ability to block an attack is invaluable. The recent addition of Security Orb does nearly the same job as Sphere Kuriboh, but the original still benefits from being untouchable by Electro, Storm, or Harpies' Hunting Ground.
Sphere Kuriboh's graveyard effect is absolutely essential in Relinquished and his Dark Fiend typing makes him useful for Sky Scourge Enrise or Dark Necrofear decks.
Sonic Bird is an incredible card that is truly irreplaceable in Ritual decks. Bird is the only card in the game that searches Ritual spells without any cost, and the icing on the cake is that Bird also packs an acceptable 1400 ATK which gets boosted under Harpies' Hunting Ground.
Possibly one of the most iconic cards in the game right now, Order to Charge is an absolute staple in aggressive beatdown decks. It is one of the few forms of proactive monster removal in the game, being able to eliminate any of your opponent's monsters for a relatively small cost. Almost any threat can be eliminated with a swift Order to Charge, and this card is almost single-handedly responsible for the popularity of normal monster beatdown in the metagame.
One of the most annoying cards in the meta, Mask can prevent monsters from attacking and burn your opponent for 500 every turn. Heavily used in Weevil decks, Mask is a very strong tool to lock your opponent down and punish them for trying to be aggressive. A cornerstone of the Weevil burn strategy.
In a metagame featuring plenty of level 4 monsters, 4-Starred shines as one of the only cards that can single-handedly wipe a board. No matter how the meta changes, the ability to clear a field full of level 4 attackers is incredibly strong and one of a kind. Notable for being very good at lower ranks, being used in Last Gamble Desert Twister to stall, and in many decks as a counter to the commonly seen Jade Insect Whistle.
Twister is incredibly versatile, being one of the only cards that can destroy a spell OR trap on either player's turn. A great number of decks rely on their field spell and being able to immediately destroy field spells or equip cards is extremely useful. It is also the only spell card in the game that requires 500 LP to activate, which makes it useful in Cerberus farm decks to adjust your LP to 100.
BEUD is primarily used for farming purposes, as its extremely high attack of 4500 is useful to reach damage thresholds of 5,000 or 10,000. In PvP it is very impractical to use because of the difficult summoning condition.
Summoner of Illusions is poor for PvP purposes, but in farming decks Summoner can be very useful. Summoner of Illusions' effect is normally used to bring out Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon with only two cards, so certain farming builds benefit greatly from an easy way to summon BEUD. Normally paired up with Gravekeeper's Vassal and Union Attack(s) to reach 10,000 damage bonus.
Initially a very strong card in the meta, eventually people adapted and realized that Balloons had a glaring weakness to De-Spell and Twister. Nowadays, Balloons is rarely used in the meta, but it is important to note that an entire deck is built around stalling with Wonder Balloons; combining Balloons with Sword of Deep-Seated can stall the game until one player decks out. This strategy has somewhat fallen out of favor because of the abundance of Harpies.
Fusion Gate is a powerful card that will only get better as more fusions are released, but at the moment its only really used in auto-dueling decks. Using Fusion Gate in combination with Meteor Black Dragon is an effective combination with auto-duel to consistently earn 3-4K DA points against standard duelists.
While this card sees almost zero play in PvP, it is an essential part of most farming strategies. Normally farm decks reach high damage thresholds by using Secret Pass to attack directly with Gravekeeper's Vassal or Piranha Army.
A key card in Tea burn, if the burn player goes first, they can often do 1000 damage with a single Revolution.
One of the core cards in Clown control, Dream is used for its ability to proactively remove monsters when paired with Desert Sunlight. Clowns aren't extremely popular, but Clowns are a fairly cheap, useful deck.
Contract is incredibly useful in any Ritual based deck. For a paltry cost of only 800 LP, you can revive any Ritual monster that has been properly summoned first. Contract used to see heavy use in Relinquished when only two were available, but now that three copies of Relinquished have been released, Contract is a personal tech choice.
